NEW DELHI: Facebook-owned WhatsApp will stop working on some of the Android and iOS smartphones starting today. So, if you have been using an old Android smartphone or iPhone, then you may need to worry about WhatsApp support.
The popular instant messaging app has confirmed that it will stop working on phones that are not running Android OS 4.1 and above and iOS 10 and above. In order to continue using the application, users will have to get a new smartphone that runs on supporting operating system versions. Users can backup their chat history before moving on to a new smartphone.
WhatsApp has also confirmed that the JioPhone users can still use the app without any problem. JioPhone users will not have to worry about WhatsApp support. WhatsApp has clarified that “select phones running KaiOS 2.5.1 newer, including the JioPhone and JioPhone 2” will continue to support the chat app.
According to a report by Metro News, the following smartphones will not support WhatsApp from November 1.
