WhatsApp update: WhatsApp Windows app getting automatic albums, reactions in new beta update

WhatsApp Windows update: How the new feature could look

The update is being rolled out to WhatsApp’s Windows app, which runs as a native app on Windows PCs – and is different from the chat app’s web browser-based version. The new feature is actually not particularly new, and users of WhatsApp on Android and iOS have had it for a long time. The feature, called automatic albums, creates a group of photos and videos that have been sent together.

The feature essentially organises all the media that are being shared over chats, and helps users with heavy media sharing between each other. Now, the feature is expected to come to the service’s native Windows app as well, which could help it bring the latter up to date with the other versions of its app.

The feature comes ahead of WhatsApp introducing message reactions feature on the app, which has also been rolled out across other platforms – but not the UWP Windows app. The ability to react to messages will start with automatic albums on the app.

Other new features on WhatsApp

The WhatsApp Windows app, earlier this month, got the ability to share view-once photos. This means that users can share an image that could only be viewed once on the app, and works similar to disappearing stories on the platform. The app also received an update to share voice notes through its Windows app itself – suggesting that Meta is working to bring the WhatsApp Windows (UWP) app up to date in terms of features with its app on other platforms.

On other platforms, WhatsApp issued an update for its Android beta app yesterday, which was designed to fix an issue where a notification would be constantly stuck on the Android notifications drawer, if users tried deleting a message. The update is more of a fix, so every beta user should be able to see it.
