WhatsApp working on multiple new features across all platforms: Polls, Avatars and more

WhatsApp is working on multiple features for Android phones, iPhones and for the Desktop app. All the features are rolling out to beta testers. These include a bunch of media auto-download settings, polls in one-on-one chats and WhatsApp avatars. Here we talk about these features in detail.
WhatsApp Avatars
It looks like Meta wants you to create their Avatars even outside the metaverse. WhatsApp is now rolling out an update to beta testers on Android. The Settings menu will have a new option “Avatars” that will allow you to create an avatar.
Once you are done with making your avatar, WhatsApp will automatically create a new sticker pack. You can then share stickers from this pack with your friends and family. Users can also use avatars as their profile photos on the Meta-owned instant messaging app.
Recently, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced an update for Avatars in metaverse. The avatars will soon have legs and will no longer be flying torsos with hands and a head. People in metaverse will also be able to purchase items for their avatars by spending real money.
WhatsApp Polls
WhatsApp Polls feature has been in the news for some time now and the company is now rolling it out for beta testers on both Android as well as iPhones. An earlier version of the Polls feature allows users to create polls in a group but the latest update brings this ability to personal chats and enables users to create one-on-one polls.
It is to be noted that the interface of polls in one-to-one chat and in a group are the same. Just like with group polls, users can add up to 12 options to a one-on-one poll. WhatsApp will automatically update the poll when it receives a vote and they will be end-to-end encrypted in both group and individual chats. Polls come in handy when you want to quickly get your friends’ take on something.
Media auto-download settings
WhatsApp is now rolling out a feature that will allow users to manage media auto-download settings. It is being rolled out to some beta testers on WhatsApp Desktop beta app. This update is likely to come on WhatsApp web as well.
To access these features, “open WhatsApp Settings and if media auto-download settings show up, it means you can already start to manage these options,” WABetaInfo said in a report. Users can now manage auto-download settings for photos, videos, and documents. Voice notes, however, are automatically downloaded for the best messaging experience.
It is to be noted that there is no definite date for a stable version of these under-testing features.
