Why Apple may not worry about global chip shortage for iPhone 13 – Times of India
With the ongoing chip shortage worrying automobile manufacturers and tech companies worldwide, Apple may be an exception and not worry about it. Apple’s major supplier, TSMC has reportedly said that it will prioritise chip orders from Apple. This means there should not be any problems for Apple to launch the iPhone 13 series on time. Along with Apple, TSMC has also announced that it will give priority to chip orders from car makers too.
As per a report by Digitimes, TSMC is giving priority to Apple and car makers and is then catering to orders from PC and server makers. TSMC makes Apple’s A-series chips for iPhones and any glitch in logistics may directly result in the delay of the iPhone 13 series launch or distribution. The company also makes chips for Mac and iPads.
Back in February this year, Foxconn chairman had said that it expects ‘limited impact’ from chip shortage on clients. “Since most of the customers we serve are large customers, they all have proper precautionary planning,” said Liu Young-way, chairman of the manufacturing conglomerate formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd in a report by Reuters.
Apple’s scale may enable it to breeze through the global shortage and the production cycle of the upcoming iPhone 13 may not be affected much.
Meanwhile, a report by TrendForce claimed that the prices of the upcoming Apple iPhone 13 series phones may be very similar to launch prices of the iPhone 12 series that was introduced last year. Apple is expected to launch four new iPhone under the iPhone 13 series like last and may be likely called as iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The starting price of the iPhone 13 is expected to be the same at $699.
Interestingly, the report also claimed that Apple may name the next iPhone as iPhone 12s and not iPhone 13. However, there’s no official word from Apple on the same. The next iPhones may have a smaller display notch.
