Why iOS 16 Photos app is not showing duplicate content for some users – Times of India

With iOS 16, Apple recently added the new Duplicates album tab in the “Utilities” section of the Photos app. This feature allows the Photos app to automatically detect all the duplicate photos and videos that are present in the iPhone’s libraries.
This feature accumulates all the duplicate content in a single album (the Duplicates album) for users to inspect and merge duplicate sets of content. Users can also access this album to remove repetitive photos and videos. Some iPhone users who recently updated their smartphones to iOS 16 were unable to find the Duplicates album in the Photos app.
Apple has shared a new support document to address and explain the issue. Also, the tech giant has mentioned ways for users to resolve it.

How to get the Duplicates album in iOS 16
As per Apple’s support document, iPhones have to go through the existing library to detect and collate duplicate photos and videos.
If you have duplicate media saved in your library, only then the device will be able to create a Duplicates album that will be visible in the Photos app. To initiate the detection process, iPhone users have to keep their devices locked and on charging.

Apple has also added that the detection process might take some minutes or even a few days depending on the size of your library or the tasks that are running in the background.
Users should also note that the Duplicates album won’t appear under the “Utilities” section of the Photos app if you don’t have duplicate content in your library. The Duplicates album will show only when your iPhone’s library has more than one version of the same photo or video.
