Why Twitter wants you to see tweets from people you don’t follow – Times of India

Since Elon Musk‘s acquisition, Twitter has been working on content moderation. It wants to show both advertisers and users – who distanced themselves from the social network – that Twitter is not becoming “a free-for-all hellscape.” The new owner of the company has also been sharing numbers to support his user interaction claims.
In an apparent move to further fuel these interactions, the microblogging platform has now announced that it is expanding tweet recommendations to all users.

In a tweet, Twitter announced that it wants to “ensure everyone on Twitter sees the best content on the platform,” and for that, it is expanding Recommendations to all users, “including those who may not have seen them in the past.”
What is Twitter Recommendations
Recommendations feature is one of the ways Twitter makes “it easier for users to discover the conversations and accounts that interest them the most.” Remember when you came across that funny or informative tweet by a person you did not follow? You probably saw a recommendation.
“Recommendations are designed to enrich your Twitter experience, and the more you know about them, the better they can be,” the company explains in a blog post.

How Recommendations as shown on Twitter
Twitter relies on its algorithms to offer these personalised suggestions to users based on actions they take on Twitter. These actions are called Signals, which include things like topics of interest users follow, tweets they engage with and even tweets people in their network like. “Based on these signals and more, we’ll show you content we think you’ll be interested in,” Twitter says.
The social media platform offers two ways in which users can see tweets. Recommendations or recommended tweets appear in “Home” – the non-chronological feed – which organises tweets algorithmically, in certain places within the Explore tab and elsewhere on Twitter.
