Why your Samsung, Sony and LG TVs will all look hugely inferior this week

January is one of the biggest months in the technology calendar with the global CES show always taking place at the start of the year. Despite the current COVID-19 health crisis, CES is going ahead in 2022 with the show opening its doors under the bright lights of Las Vegas later this week.

A whole swathe of products are set to be unveiled during the three-day event and some of the biggest releases will be all-new TVs.

Samsung, Sony, LG and Panasonic almost always use CES to reveal what’s coming to living rooms later this year and we’re expecting plenty of blockbuster news over the next few days that could make your current gogglebox look a little long in the tooth.

There’s no word on exactly what will be unveiled in Sin City although all of the big firms have scheduled press conferences taking place where they will lift the lid on what is coming next.

One thing we do know is that things will be bigger, brighter, faster and more intelligent this year with displays that will push the boundaries of big-screen technology. Most manufacturers will also be trying to make the user experience more seamless as more of us than ever now stream most of the content we watch from services such as Netflix and Disney+.

Making things more eco-friendly could also be top of the agenda with firms looking to cut down on excess packaging and producing more efficient displays.

Last year, Samsung introduced its new Neo QLED TV which features a remote control that includes solar technology rather than wasteful batteries. It will be interesting to see if other companies follow that lead in 2022.

Although full details about the upcoming changes and shiny new screens will be revealed soon, LG has already teased some of its new TVs including the launch the ultimate portable television. The new StanbyME telly features an inbuilt battery that allows you to binge on boxsets anywhere you fancy.

The 27-inch screen will keep on going for around three hours before it needs a refill and it connects to your Wi-Fi for easy access to services such as Disney+ and Netflix.

If you don’t fancy holding your TV in your hands there’s a moveable stand and when the screen is not being used for a movie night it can display family photos or transform into a clock.
