Will OnePlus’ new unified OS be called H2OOS?

There have been talks going around OxygenOS and the upcoming unified OS. The internet is widely divided here — some like the new ColorOS-based OxygenOS 12, while some think it’s the end of OnePlus. And, do you guys even remember Hydrogen OS? OnePlus’ Android skin for China. It’s been killed and has been replaced by the ColorOS. But, as per new rumours, OnePlus isn’t over with the word “Hydrogen” yet.

According to a recent finding by tipster Mukul Sharma, OnePlus and OPPO’s unified operating system might be named H2OOS. No, it’s not a formula for some chemical compound, but it certainly is a mouthful. However, there are some concerns regarding this branding.

The main reason to not take this ‘H2OOS’ branding seriously as the official name of the upcoming unified operating system is that OnePlus filed the trademark for this seven years ago in 2015, i.e seven years ago. To refresh your memory, that was when the company launched the OnePlus 2 and introduced the HydrogenOS in China. As many companies do, H2OOS would be among the many names trademarked at the time considering Hydrogen and H2O go hand in hand.

And, of course, OnePlus was operating solely as a standalone brand at that time, so there were no plans of a unified OS with OPPO in 2015.

Nonetheless, OnePlus having the trademark for H2OOS could mean that the brand can still use the branding for the unified OS. It surely can, and we do think the name would be odd, but anything is possible.
