xbox: Microsoft wants to make it easier for people to know whether a game will run on their PC – Times of India

Microsoft is adding a simple yet important feature to its Xbox app for Windows that will allow PC owners to know whether a game that they are planning to install on their system will run smoothly or not.
The Verge is reporting that the feature comes in the form of a new label that shows whether a game will ‘play great’ on the system’s current configuration.
The new label is currently in the testing phase and is only available for select games as of now for a limited number of Xbox app users. The feature is slowly expected to roll out to other users soon.
Also, to show these labels, the company is running performance tests against a wide number of PC games to build and show these labels. Report also suggests that the company is building a database for games for these labels.
As of now, not many games are available that show these labels and most of them still show ‘performance check not available yet’ and it seems that the Xbox app currently cannot run any performance tests for games as well.
However, the company is allowing users to manually test these labels by opting into Windows gaming purview and downloading the Xbox Insider app.
Despite the fact that the feature is currently limited, it will bring a big advantage to PC gamers allowing them to know about their system’s ability to run a particular game.
It is also important to note that the company has not yet explained whether these labels are based on games’ minimum system requirements or recommended system requirements. But it will certainly become the most viable alternative to third-party solutions that test the games for a particular system configuration.
