Xbox Series X is testing new energy-saving option: Here’s what it may be called – Times of India

Microsoft’s Xbox Series X consoles already allow users to save energy with its ‘Energy Saver’ and ‘standby mode’ options. However, ‘Standby mode’ consumes 20 times more energy than the Energy Saver mode when the console is not in use. A new report by The Verge claims that the Redmond giant is testing a new update for Xbox’s power-related settings for the members Xbox Insider programme.

Xbox Series X’s new energy-saving menu: What may change
Currently, Xbox’s power-saving options are available in the “Sleep mode and startup” menu. Here, users are offered two options: Energy Saver and Standby. Users need to keep their consoles on the Standby mode for remote features to work.

Now, Microsoft is reportedly allowing Xbox Insiders to test a new power-saving menu in the General section of the settings. The new “Power options” section includes a power consumption meter where users can find their energy usage. ‘Energy saver’ and ‘Standby modes’ have been renamed to Shutdown and Sleep modes, respectively. While the power-usage meter will display the amount of energy the Xbox console will consume when it’s not in use.
The screenshot shared on Twitter reveals that the energy-saving Shutdown mode of the Xbox console will use 0.5 watts of energy compared to the 13-15 watts of energy that will be consumed in the Sleep mode. This might seem like a tiny difference but with time this will add up to save a lot of money on your energy bills.
However, it is important to mention that the Shut-down mode will still allow the console to automatically update overnight, which may cause an increase in power consumption. To prevent that from happening, users have to manually disconnect their console from the power supply as there is no other option to turn off automatic updates.
Currently, this is an Xbox Insider exclusive feature and Microsoft has not announced any official details about the new power-saving options in Xbox consoles.
