TL;DR
- Xiaomi has claimed that the Xiaomi 12 series will be first with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
- A previous leak points to a December 12 launch date.
- We’re guessing this is a Chinese launch for now.
Xiaomi is no stranger to adopting brand-new silicon ahead of the pack, as the Mi 11 was first to launch with the Snapdragon 888 chipset a year ago. Now, the company has announced that it will be doing the same with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
The company took to social media to reveal that the Xiaomi 12 will be the “world debut” of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. Check out the poster below.
The company also posted a video online, declaring that the processor will power the Xiaomi 12 series and that the range was “coming soon.”
For what it’s worth, a previous leak has pointed to the Xiaomi 12 range launching on December 12 (12/12). If that’s indeed the case, then we have just under two weeks to go until we see the new flagship family.
We wouldn’t hold our breath for a global launch and wide availability in a few days or weeks though. The Xiaomi Mi 11 was also launched in December, but this was for the Chinese market and the global launch would take place in February.
Nevertheless, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is looking like a pretty solid upgrade. Between the 4nm design, new ArmV9 CPU cores, and some impressive camera features, the Xiaomi 12 series will definitely be on the cutting-edge.
