Xiaomi 12S Ultra to come with Sony IMX989 1-inch sensor – Times of India
Xiaomi will announce its next flagship smartphone series – Xiaomi 12S – next month. The Xiaomi 12S series comprising – Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12S Pro and Xiaomi 12S Ultra – is launching on July 4. The two devices are the successor to Xiaomi’s latest flagship, while the company is touting Xiaomi 12S Ultra as the next big upgrade in imagery technology. And the company might be really on to something as the Xiaomi 12 Pro will feature a 1-inch sensor from Sony — the IMX989.
Sony’s IMX989 is not a true 1-inch sensor but a 1-inch type sensor
The company recently revealed that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra would come with a new 1-inch sensor from Sony. The new sensor is the much rumoured Sony IMX989. However, it is not a true 1-inch sensor but a 1-inch type sensor similar to the one on the Sony Xperia Pro-I.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra’s camera is touted to be faster than iPhone 13 Pro Max
Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, shared some more details about Xiaomi 12 Ultra’s main camera in one of his posts on Weibo. As per the post, the Sony IMX989 sensor will have a 172 per cent greater photosensitive area and a 76 per cent greater photosensitive capacity. Further, the sensor will improve the camera speed by 32.5 per cent, offering an 11 per cent increase in startup speed compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra will be one of the first smartphones from the company to be co-developed with Leica. However, we are still not sure what improvements this partnership will bring but it will surely give Xiaomi a chance to capitalise on Leica’s popularity. From the leaked renders it will be the only smartphone other than a few Huawei smartphones to have the iconic red Leica logo.
