Xiaomi confirms 50MP Sony sensor for Redmi Note 12 5G smartphone

Redmi, a subsidiary brand of Xiaomi, is set to launch its Note 12 Pro series in India on January 5. The series is likely to include the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G and the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G smartphones. Ahead of the launch, the company also teased the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G on Flipkart. Interested customers can click on the “Notify Me” button and get notifications about the launch.
Alvin Tse, general manager of Xiaomi shared sample snaps of Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G which has been listed on the Flipkart website as ‘Super Note’. The tweet also suggests that the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G that made its debut in China last year with a 50 MP Sony IMX766 sensor and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) technology onboard is also expected to mark its presence in the Indian variant.

Sumit Sonal, another Xiaomi executive, general manager, marketing, Xiaomi India also shared some of the camera specifications of the phone. According to his tweet, the Sony IMX766 which is integrated into the primary sensor of the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G claims to capture more light and offer better-clarity in photography.

Xiaomi recently introduced a new lineup of smartphones with the launch of Redmi Note 12 series in China. The series comprises Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 Pro and Redmi Note 12 Pro+.
Redmi Note 12 Pro (India variant) expected specifications
Redmi Note 12 Pro is likely to feature a 6.67-inch full-HD+ OLED display with 1,080×2,400 pixels resolution. The smartphone is said to offer up to 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. Rumours suggest that the device will run MIUI 13 based on Android 12 and will be powered by an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB in-built storage.
As discussed above, Redmi Note 12 Pro is expected to feature a triple rear camera setup that may include– 50MP Sony IMX766 OIS sensor, 8MP ultra wide-angle sensor and a 2MP macro sensor. For selfies and video calls, the smartphone may feature a 16MP front shooter.
Redmi Note 12 Pro is expected to be backed by a 5,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging support.
