xiaomi: How Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo fared in the Q3 2021 smartphone sales – Times of India
Global smartphone sales have seen a dip by 6.8% in Q3 2021 compared to the same quarter the previous year, as per a report by Gartner. The causes for the drop in sales reportedly include component shortages which disrupted production schedules, making for a lower inventory and delayed product availability.
Samsung retained its top spot as the market leader in smartphone sales with 20.2% Q3 shares even after witnessing a Y-O-Y market share drop of 1.9%. However, the South Korean company’s revamped foldable devices saw a strong demand.
Apple took the second place in sales to end users with 14.2% while Xiaomi rounded off the top 3 with 13.0% Q3 market share. The iPhone feature upgrades like the “upgraded bionic A15 sensor, improved battery life and camera sensor optimisation for improved photography” made it tick for Apple, as per the report.
Xiaomi benefited from its online channel-led strategy for market expansion in Europe and the Middle East. The company’s partnership with communication service providers (CSPs) in these regions helped it increase its market shares, said the report.
Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo increased their market share 1%, 2.4% and 1.7% respectively, year-over-year, with Vivo taking the fourth place at 10.5% market share and Oppo getting the fifth spot with 8.5% shares.
Vivo had the highest year-over-year growth (20.9%) among the top five in the third quarter of 2021, with its 13 new smartphone launches and the new offline retailers and experience stores helping it out for the same.
