xiaomi: Xiaomi confirms that Mi 12 to be released with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor – Times of India
Qualcomm has officially released its next-gen premium smartphone chipset named Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. This is the first product by the company that follows the latest naming scheme. The processor giant has also confirmed that the smartphones that will run on the new processor are expected to start launching from December 2021. GizmoChina reports that Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has revealed that the brand’s next premium smartphone in the Xiaomi 12 series will come equipped with the newly unveiled Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.
This new chipset is developed using a 4nm process by Samsung based on Armv9 architecture. It comes with one Cortex-X2 prime core clocked at 3GHz, three Cortex-A710 performance cores clocked at 2.5GHz and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores clocked at 1.8GHz. Qualcomm claims that this new processor offers a performance boost of upto 20 per cent and increases power efficiency by 30 per cent compared to the Snapdragon 888. It also packs a new Adreno GPU that claims to improve graphics rendering by 30 per cent and boosts power efficiency by 25 per cent.
The company shared a teaser poster earlier claiming that the Xiaomi 12 to be the first smartphone to get a global release with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor but it hasn’t announced the official release date yet. On the contrary, Motorola has already revealed that it will release its premium Moto Edge X30 smartphone on December 9 in China which will also be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.
The report adds that the Chinese smartphone giant has also shared a teaser video that revealed that the Xiaomi 12 series premium smartphones have entered the mass production phase and it also showcased a part of the production process.
Qualcomm has also announced a list of brands that have registered to introduce devices that will run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. These brands include — Motorola, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Black Shark, Honor, iQOO, Realme, Sony Corporation, Nubia, Oppo, Redmi, Sharp, Vivo and ZTE.
Samsung has not been included in the list even with its next premium Galaxy S22 series from the South Korean giant that is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in some markets.
