Xiaomi recently debuted its latest Watch S1 Pro model for the global market at the MWC 2023 event. The latest watch which was launched in China in 2022 also runs on the MIUI Watch OS and comes with a traditional smartwatch design. The Watch S1 Pro is powered by a 12nm chip and is also equipped with multiple health sensors. Xiomai claims that the latest watch will offer a battery life that will last up to two weeks on a single charge.
What is MIUI Watch OS
The higher-end smartwatch models from Xiaomi run on “MIUI Watch OS.” which is also based on Android. However, by ditching the WearOS 3 branding the Xiaomi Watch lineup is missing out on some of the exclusive features which are available only with Google’s apps and services.
Xiaomi’s WearOS 3-based watch: What to expect
As per the report, the company may adopt Google Play Services and the entire “Wear OS” branding on an upcoming model. The rumoured Xiaomi Watch is expected to make WearOS users access a similar interface which is available on WearOS 3 watches.
The report doesn’t share many details about the upcoming smartwatch. However, it reveals that this watch will run on Wear OS 3 and users will likely be able to manage it from the same “Mi Fitness (Xiaomi Wear)” app that is available for the company’s current wearable models.
The rumoured watch is also expected to release under the same “Xiaomi Watch” branding (which is also the branding available on the existing lineup of non-Wear OS watches). However, this change may affect the battery life of the Xiaomi Watches which are usually capable of running for multiple days without charging (depending on the usage).
Google’s Wear OS doesn’t have a reputation for long-lasting battery life, and this issue may also impact the upcoming wearable from Xiaomi. The report also doesn’t reveal a specific launch date for the WearOS 3-based Xiaomi Watch. The upcoming smartwatch is likely to be released in 2023.
Samsung’s smartwatches like the latest Galaxy Watch 5 series run on Google’s WearOS. Smartwatch models from other companies like Fossil, Diesel, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and more have also started rolling out WearOS-based models.
