You can now get free Windows 11 update, here’s how
Almost after a month of continuously releasing multiple Windows 11 builds in Dev and Beta channels of Insider Preview and improving upon features and design, Microsoft has finally dropped Windows 11’s final build in the Preview channel.
This Preview build is almost the final version of Windows 11 Insider Preview before its official launch on October 5. The build is now available for Windows Insider users, all they need is to switch the channel from Dev or Beta to Preview in Windows 10 to get the free copy of the Windows 11 operating system before the official rollout.
Microsoft has also released the ISO of the final build — 22000.194 — of Windows 11 on the Windows Insider website. Those who want to clean install Windows 11 operating system on their PC, can head to the website and download the ISO file as well.
How to get the Windows 11 Preview build
To get Windows 11 before the official rollout, the first thing you’ll need is a Windows 11 compatible system. To check that, you can either read the Windows 11 minimum requirements or simply download the Microsoft PC Health Check app. It will run a check on your system and let you know whether the system supports Windows 11 or not.
If your PC supports Windows 11, you’ll need to enrol into the Windows Insider program.
To do this, head to Settings on your Windows 10 PC -> Update & Security -> Windows Insider Program.
Now, click on Get Started button and link the Microsoft account that you are currently using with Windows 10
After this, Windows 10 will prompt you to choose the Channel, choose Release Preview Channel and confirm
Now, restart your system
Once the system is back up and running, head to Settings -> Update & Security
Here you’ll see a new banner with Windows 11 update
Hit the Download and install option and follow on-screen instructions to install Windows 11
Once Windows 11 is installed, head to Settings -> Update & Security again and choose the option ‘Stop getting updates’.
This step isn’t compulsory, but this will ensure that you will no longer receive future Windows Insider update being released in the Preview ring and to remain on the final build of Windows 11. Also, this does not mean that you won’t receive any Windows update. Regular updates should arrive as they should.
As already mentioned, if you are looking to clean install Windows 11, then you can download the ISO file and create a bootable USB using Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool or third-party software like Rufus.
Now, restart your system, insert the USB drive and choose boot from USB in the BIOS settings. Follow on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
