You mostly have faith in Carl Pei and Nothing
Nothing hasn’t launched its first smartphone just yet, but all eyes will be on the Phone 1‘s critical and commercial reception. The company, formed by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has already released a pair of well-received Ear 1 earbuds, but the smartphone game is a different story altogether.
Our own Dhruv Bhutani questioned whether Pei and Nothing could succeed in this space, but we also asked readers what they thought of Nothing’s chances. Here are the results of our survey.
Can Carl Pei launch another successful smartphone brand?
Results
Just over 1,700 votes were tallied in our poll, and it turns out almost two-thirds of you have faith that Pei will be able to make Nothing a successful smartphone brand. We’re guessing that Pei’s record of success with OnePlus — even if the company was backed by Oppo, to begin with — played a part in people voting for this option. It’s also worth noting that the Ear 1 earbuds seem to be a success, so it looks like Nothing is tentatively off to a good start.
Meanwhile, 24.57% of polled readers say “only time will tell” if Pei turns Nothing into a successful smartphone company. We don’t blame people for picking this option too, as earbuds are a very different ballgame to smartphones.
Finally, 8.91% of respondents don’t think Pei can make Nothing a successful smartphone brand. It’s fair to say that successful standalone brands have been few and far between in recent years.
