YouTube for Android gets video transcription support: What it means for users – Times of India

YouTube app is getting video transcription support. The feature is currently available for YouTube desktop users. According to a report by Android Police, it is now rolling out to Android users as well.
Video transcriptions feature will enable users to view the complete transcription of any video right on the app. The feature reportedly adds a new “Transcript” section below the video description. Tapping on the ‘Show Transcript’ button will open up the complete transcription of the current video with timestamps.
The report also shares screenshots of how the transcript feature will work. It illustrates that users will be able to navigate through the video transcript by scrolling through the Transcript window. They can also jump right to a specific timestamp with the new feature.
However, the feature on the YouTube app doesn’t allow users to search through the transcript currently. It is currently rolling out to YouTube mobile app users via a server-side update, and is available to a handful of YouTube users.
Meanwhile, Popular third-party alternative YouTube Vanced has been discontinued. The decision comes after a legal threat from Google. Google had reportedly sent the Vanced owners a cease and desist letter recently. The letter, according to The Verge report forced the developers to stop distributing and developing the app. “We were asked to remove all references to ‘YouTube’, change the logo, and remove all links related to YouTube products,”
says an admin from the Vanced team in a Discord message to The Verge.
The announcement was made by YouTube Vanced via a post on microblogging site Twitter. The post said that it will take down the download links of the app from the website in the coming days.
