TL;DR

  • YouTube is crashing on a variety of iOS devices.
  • The crashes are happening within a minute of opening the app.
  • YouTube has acknowledged the issue and is working on a fix.

If you’re an iPhone owner trying to use YouTube today, you probably wondered what was happening. It turns out there was an issue that was causing the app to crash. But now the problem should be fixed according to YouTube.

Earlier today, iPhone users flocked to Twitter to report issues with YouTube. Apparently, when attempting to open YouTube on iOS, the app would reportedly crash shortly after. Neither closing out of the app nor restarting it fixed the situation either.

The number of users affected by the bug grew large enough this afternoon that Team YouTube on Twitter acknowledged the issue and said that a fix is on the way.

hi, we’re aware that many of you using the YouTube app on iOS devices may be experiencing crashes

we’re so sorry about this & have begun working on a fix! updates soon????

Apple’s iPhones weren’t the only devices experiencing the problem either, the bug was reported on the iPad and the tvOS app for Apple TV as well. Additionally, it seems that the issue was being found on YouTube Music as well.

Despite the mess, it looks like YouTube has pushed out a fix, according to the company’s Twitter account.

hi! the YouTube app on iOS devices should now be working fine with no crashes!

thanks for hanging in there ????

But based on the replies to Team YouTube’s most recent tweet, some are still experiencing crashes. For now, it looks like all these users can do is patiently wait for things to get better.
