YouTube testing offline video download feature for these users

Google’s video streaming platform YouTube is testing a feature that allows users to download videos using desktop browsers. YouTube allows Premium members to use the platform without any advertisement and it also allows those members to try out new features that the company is working on. The new download feature test is only available till October 19. You can also check what the company is testing next at YouTube’s experimental features page.
Users with YouTube Premium membership can access the new feature on the latest versions of Chrome, Edge or Opera browsers. To download any video, users can have to click on the ‘download’ button while watching a video or click on the 3-dot menu while browsing. The video will be available to download in 4 resolutions – 1080p, 720p, 480p and 144p.
The downloaded video will not be available on hard-disk forever, users will only get a cached version of the video. Users will be able to see the downloaded video offline and it will be available as long as the device is connected to the internet at least once every 30 days. YouTube apps on Play Store and App Store already have the download option available for quite some time now.
Along with the new download feature, YouTube is also testing picture-in-picture (PiP) for iOS app. This allows iPhone users to watch the video in a miniplayer when the user swipes up or presses the home button while watching a video. According to the company, locking the screen while watching in PiP will pause the video and users can resume the video using the lock screen media control. The PiP feature will also be available for testing to YouTube Premium members till October 31. As of now, YouTube videos can only be downloaded from a browser using third-party websites and applications.
