zoom: Why these Apple users should update Zoom app right now
Zoom is one of the most popular video conferencing apps globally. The app expanded its user base since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. For the past couple of months, the users of the Zoom app on macOS have complained of a bug in the Zoom Community. As per several users, the microphone of their Mac stayed active even after ending a conference call on Zoom. To address the bug, Zoom has now rolled out a new update for the macOS app.
Users were able to spot the bug because of the new privacy feature in macOS Monterey that shows an orange dot in the menu bar when an app is using the microphone. The company has now fixed the bug with the latest update.
“We experienced a bug relating to the Zoom client for macOS, which could show the orange indicator light continue to appear after having left a meeting, call, or webinar. This bug was addressed in the Zoom client for macOS version 5.9.3 and we recommend you update to version 5.9.3 to apply the fix.” the company mentioned in a blog post.
For those who don’t know, Zoom does not have a good track record when it comes to users’ privacy. The platform was fined $85 million last year when it lied about having end-to-end encryption
A few months ago, Zoom also announced that it is adding automatic update feature to the platform. The feature helps users to get the new features and bug fixes automatically when they are released by the company. The company regularly releases new updates to address the vulnerabilities and fix the bugs, but a lot of users skip these updates which makes them vulnerable to cyber attacks.
