zuckerberg: Facebook CEO on what he looks for in a person when hiring them – Times of India
Mark Zuckerberg is one of the most well-known tech CEOs. Meta — formerly known as Facebook — has platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook that are used by billions across the world daily. Zuckerberg, who started Facebook, from his dorm room in Harvard has shared some advice for college students and also gave an insight into what he looks for in a person when he hires them. A report by CNBC details an interview given by Zuckerberg to a podcast.
In a podcast hosted by MIT computer scientist Lex Fridman, Zuckerberg said that when someone is in college then the most important decision they can make is who they spend time with. “You become the people you surround yourself with,” he explained. “I think probably people are too, in general, objective focused, and maybe not focused enough on the connections and the people who they’re basically building relationships with,” said Zuckerberg in the interview.
Zuckerberg also said that he makes an attempt to prioritise relationships over objectives. When he is evaluating a candidate for a job then he actually imagines not being their boss but what it would be like to work for that person. “I will only hire someone to work for me if I could see myself working for them,” he said.
The Meta CEO further explained why he chooses to do so. This strategy, as per Zuckerberg, helps in fostering an environment that is more productive. Finding personal compatibility is important, said Zuckerberg, as goals are achieved better together if you are working with people who share your values on a human level.
