FIFA World Cup 2022: Elon Musk shares another “highest ever” stat on Twitter – Times of India

FIFA World Cup 2022 is over with Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, winning the top prize. The tournament has registered multiple milestones during the month-long event on Twitter such as seeing ‘almost’ 20,000 tweets per second on November 23. In the latest development, company CEO Elon Musk claimed that the social media giant saw over 24,000 tweets per second during the finals in Qatar.
In a tweet, the new owner of Twitter said that when Kylian Mbappe scored the second goal for France equalising Argentina’s tally, the social media platform saw 24,400 tweets per second which is the “highest ever for [a] World Cup!”

Musk also tweeted multiple videos and photos while watching the football match live from Lusail Stadium in Qatar. The World Cup has been a great deal for Musk because the global event has garnered much interaction and traffic on Twitter. This is expected to help the company, which is struggling due to less advertising, boost its revenue.
Twitter has garnered much footfall during the previous iterations of the sporting event. The 2014 World Cup in Brazil boosted Twitter’s second quarter revenue and in 2018, the event helped the platform get as many as 115 billion impressions, as per a report by Market Watch.
Previously, Twitter recorded almost 20,000 tweets per second during one of the group stage games on November 23. Morocco played against Croatia, Germany vs Japan and Spain against Costa Rica. At that time, Musk also thanked the Twitter team for “managing record usage.”
JioCinema: Digital viewership overtakes TV for FIFA World Cup
