How to enable cough and snore detection on your Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro – Times of India
The Pixel 7 series of smartphones can listen in during the night and can differentiate between regular snoring and a heavier breathing issue. This feature can be found under the Digital Wellbeing set of tools in the Bedtime Mode. During your sleep, the phone will mark timestamps where you either snored or coughed and details about your breathing can be accessed the next day.
The Bedtime Mode is also available in older Pixel smartphones such as Pixel 6 and Pixel 6a. However, there is no cough and snore detection feature.
On a support page, Google says the Digital Wellbeing app is not intended to be used for medical purposes. It just provides information to help users find a balance with technology. The company also says it “does not guarantee or warrant that this feature can be used to achieve particular results.”
How to turn on cough and snore detection on Pixel 7
In order to enable the cough and snore detection on your Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro, you have to first create a bedtime schedule to turn on automatically at night.
- Open Settings by tapping on the “cog” icon on your Pixel 7.
- Scroll down and tap on Digital Wellbeing & parental controls.
- If you have two profiles (such as work or personal) on your phone, choose your preferred profile profile.
- Find and tap Bedtime Mode. You can also access the Bedtime Mode by swiping down twice on the home screen and long-tapping the Bedtime Mode quick setting tile.
- To set Bedtime Mode, tap Next. By default, the bedtime is set between 11 pm to 7 am.
- You can change the start time and end time by tapping on the “time”.
- Set the days you want the phone to record your breathing by tapping the small circles just below the time.
- Tap on the cough and snore detection option and tap the toggle to enable it.
It is to be noted that the Pixel phone will access your daily app usage, motion and light detection during your bedtime schedule, microphone and time zone history for this feature to work as it is intended to. So, you have to allow access to these by tapping “Allow”.
How to check your cough and snore summary
The cough and snore summary will be available on the next day after you wake up. You can also check the weekly summary.
- Go to your Bedtime mode by following the steps mentioned above.
- Your bedtime activity will be shown in the app under the weekly average summary in the form of a graph.
- Blue lines in the summary indicate snoring and red lines indicate coughing.
You can also check the data of any particular day by tapping on any day of the week in the graph. It is to be noted that if you sleep with another family member or your dog who snores, Pixel will also take their snoring and coughing sounds into consideration. Hence, in such cases the data may not be accurate.
