Samsung One UI 3.1.1 spotted in changelog, might not be a big update

TL;DR
- Samsung’s next One UI update might be called One UI 3.1.1.
- The name suggests it’s not a major update.
- There’s still no sign of One UI 3.5, but One UI 3.1.1 could debut on Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone.
Samsung phones are currently running either One UI 3.0 or One UI 3.1. The first one brought Android 11 to Samsung devices, while the second one came with minor improvements and several new features. Now, Samsung seems to be preparing another update to One UI, but it may not be a big one as per what a new report from XDA Developers suggests.
Samsung went from One UI 2.0 to One UI 2.1 and then to One UI 2.5 in the previous version of the skin. All of those jumps represented new features coming to Galaxy phones. So naturally, after One UI 3.0 and 3.1, users were expecting the release of One UI 3.5 with some design tweaks and feature additions. However, it looks like Samsung is preparing an incremental update called One UI 3.1.1.
The name of the new One UI update was spotted by a Twitter user in the update changelog of Nice Catch, a Good Lock module on the Galaxy Store.
As you can see, the changelog clearly mentions One UI 3.1.1. We don’t know why Samsung is going with another update to One UI 3.1 rather than releasing One UI 3.5, but the same information was also previously tipped by leaker Ice Universe, who said a few days back that Samsung will start testing One UI 4.0 on S series flagships next month.
The name of the upcoming One UI version suggests it won’t be a very crucial update. It might bring some small changes but not enough to justify a bump to One UI 3.5. Then again, if Ice Universe is to be believed, One UI 3.5 may not exist, and Samsung might directly jump to One UI 4.0. The leaker expects One UI 3.1.1 to debut on Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
